The Sarkin 5K Memorial is a USATF Certified Course sanctioned by the USATF. The course captures some of Dr. Sarkin’s favorite places in Buffalo starting behind the Albright Knox Art Gallery and passing Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo at the halfway point. This fast, flat race route is great for all types of 5K participants – record breaking enthusiasts, new joggers, families out for fun, or walkers who’d like to support the cause.

Sarkin-Paroski Rounds

The Sarkin-Paroski Humanism Rounds, named in memory of two highly influential physicians, Dr. Richard Sarkin and Dr. John Paroski, occurs yearly at the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo in Alford Auditorium. The Sarkin-Paroski Humanism Rounds serve as a beacon for humanistic patient care at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. The practice and teaching of compassion and empathetic care are important to reaching this goal.

This style of rounds is a refocused outgrowth of the Schwartz Center Rounds in which caregivers and others discuss difficult emotional and social issues that arise when caring for patients. The first scheduled gathering of the Sarkin-Paroski Humanism Rounds was in 2014. It the Sarkin-Paroski Humanism Rounds now occurs every two months on the second Friday of the month at 12 noon. Lunch is provided.

All are welcome to attend the Sarkin-Paroski Humanism Rounds to learn more about its namesakes, and to share stories about these great community physicians or a mentor/teacher that significantly impacted your career.

Please contact Dr. Colleen Nugent at cnugent@buffalo.edu for more information.

Prematch Day Retreat

Sarkin Foundation has been proud to help support the annual Pre-Match Day Retreat for 4th year medical students at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This annual retreat, sponsored by the Richard T. Sarkin Emeritus Faculty Chapter of Gold Humanism Honor Society, is held in the spring and attended by graduating medical students from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

This day long event unites the graduating class for one final lesson. The goal of this retreat is to remind students, and to reinforce in them, the art of human reflection, so that they may carry this with them into their future medical careers.
